Exceeding Your Expectations

Sheath Hygiene £30/£35/£40 depending on distance/number of horses

There is no mistaking the putrid smell of an unclean sheath! It is no wonder that flies are so attracted to it, sometimes even laying eggs which hatch into maggots to feed off the smegma. It is important to clean out the sheath regularly to help protect against penile/sheath cancer, pain and discomfort from urethral stones (pictured), infection, swelling and problems with urination.  An uncomfortable horse cannot perform at his best.  Many clients notice a marked improvement in attitude, stride length and performance in general following sheath cleaning.  Equine Hygiene UK cleans all parts of the sheath including a deep internal clean and flush, leaving your boy feeling fresh, happy and comfortable.

Mare Hygiene £30/£35/£40 depending on distance/number of horses

This service is growing rapidly in popularity as more owners realise the importance of mare hygiene as it helps to protect against discomfort and reduce the risk of cancer of the vulva.  The three areas addressed are: between and around the udders, which can become clogged and uncomfortable with sharp, itchy clumps of dried secretions and dead skin cells. Next is the dock area which is thoroughly cleaned. After a change into fresh gloves, a hygienic internal clean of the vulva is carried out, removing the smegma and any vulval 'beans' present.  Mares are generally compliant with this procedure, although it is always undertaken with constant vigilance with safety in mind at all times. Pictured below is a bean we removed from a mare recently.

Massage Therapy - free of charge

Both mares and geldings can enjoy the benefits of the Equilibrium back massage therapy pad whilst they are being cleaned.  We call this the Man Spa or Lady Spa as it has amazing relaxation effects as well as being beneficial to the back muscles.  It also works well on nervous horses as it diverts some of the attention away from the cleaning process.  The Man Spa or Lady Spa is a popular choice amongst clients. It has its own battery so does not require mains electricity, and works its magic whilst the horse is being cleaned therefore it does not take up any extra time apart from the initial fitting and strap adjustment.

Massage Therapy for Swollen Sheaths - free of charge

Swollen sheaths can be caused by a variety of reasons including: excess smegma or beans, inactivity, allergy, EMS, Cushing's syndrome and even spring grass. Following a thorough clean, the Equilibrium massage mitt applied to the outer sheath on each side stimulates the lymphatic system and helps to soften the sheath and reduce swelling. The results are instantly visible after this therapy and affords the horse considerable relief from the discomfort of a swollen sheath. Liz also practises manual lymphatic drainage massage as part of a routine clean for horses showing signs of oedema in the sheath, and always advises the client of how to do this safely themselves between visits.
